The information in this book is presented well, but it contains nothing useful. There's all of the same info and more on countless Internet forums, nothing in regards to any type of engine build on a K series. This book is really only useful for someone that is too lazy to use google. All it is are pictures of dyno graphs with different part combinations, but nothing in regards to longevity or long term reviews. It's not the writers fault, he was just given basic information. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone.

The good: Dynos are great. The book is all about k-series motors, and thats exactly what i wanted. Well written.The bad: there is very little analysis after the first 10 pages or so. for the price, i was expecting a little more input and opinion rather than leaving the reader to come up to their own conclusions. while dynos are good, the power differences are vast from motor to motor. The author never seems to address how gains would have possibly been different if the modification were performed on a different motor.Its great for what it is. The dynos show you what is good and what is not. i would recommend thoroughly reading posts in a honda forum over this book though. the info is not that much different.

The strength of this book is its rather heavy testing of off the shelf, bolt-on modifications. In doing so, it gives people considering an engine upgrade a good initial direction.I also like that the author stresses the obvious but often ignored point that in order to modify any engine effectively and safely requires tuning. (Who knows how much money and how many hearts this book will save.)This is not a how-to-design-a-proprietary-600hp-bolt-on-kit book; nor is it advertised as such. But if you want your K to sing really well, you don't have the cash, time, expertise or interest in mastering the relevant engineering and black arts, and are not interested in spending a good part of your productive time reinventing what others have already brought to market, this is an excellent starter.

There is a lot of good information in this book pertaining to the Honda k-series engines. Most of the info goes over the more powerful engines but really neglects the k20a3 and only briefly talks about it.Don't get your hopes up about head swapping either, only one swap is mentioned and is about the k24/k20 hybrid which consists of a k24a1 block with a k20a2 head; essentially making a TSX engine with lower compression. Still this book is useful in some aspects but doesn't touch much on engine internals. Its basically your bolt-on handbook.

Good beginner's guide to K20 motors. I was expecting a bit more technical data but was satisfied nonetheless; it was a good read.

well, I was kind of disappointed by this book, Honestly I expected a lot more information. As far as this book goes you're better off just browsing the web for information. The dyno charts were good but not all that informative.

My kid really like it, right price and fast delivery.

Alex Gorelik is CTO and founder of Waterline Data and the founder of three startups. I love to practice and improve my German by reading stories in easy German. This book was perfect for that. It contains a variety of amusing stories. It is well organized for learners. Important words and phrases are highlighted and explained in a glossary at the end of each chapter of each story. There is a German summary at the end of each chapter, and 5 multiple choice questions in German to test comprehension. The book must have been proofread well, as I found no errors.

The series of short stories is varied in setting and genre. It was good to read and practice my German again - though I still needed to read most stories with a dictionary on the side for a few words. I was happy with the book for the language I learned, the stories and plots were a secondary feature and were generally straightforward settings for expanding knowledge of the language.

Im a enjoying working on it. The stories arent great but the opportunity to expand my vocabulary and see how some of the grammer works is very valuable. Im learning German using Duolingo and am using this to supplement the wonderful program.

This is a very good book for intermediate learners like myself. The instructions at the start of the book on how to read the text effectively are helpful and set the tone, at least for me, on what to expect and how to proceed. One important point that stands out and helps to relieve learners frustration is, "You must accept that you won't understand everything you read in the story." I find that I learn more and retain more reading texts like these than grinding away in a grammar book.

These short stories, presented as they are, were exactly what I needed. I fit the profile to a "T". I had tried reading the German language news and even purchased a novel written in German. I found both too difficult to enjoy. I have read these short stories several times and each new reading brings out more interesting detail.

Super good book, keeps you engaged and is slow and clear enough to understand if you've studied at A1-A2 level. I only wish it was longer. Not really for people younger than college age, but perfect for high school grads and up.

I think that my German student, who is twelve years old and has only been learning German for two years thoroughly enjoyed the stories in the book. They are funny and therefore make learning easy and enjoyable. All in all, a great book to use for teaching beginner German.

This a great book for working on German vocabulary and reading skill. I definitely recommend it for quick reading sessions. The stories are interesting and not overly complicated.

As I get started, please note that I am already a bit of an Enns-fan and a reader of three of his other books: “The Bible Tells Me So”, “The Sin of Certainty”, and “Ecclesiastes (The Two Horizons Commentary)”. I have “Inspiration and Incarnation” queued up on the shelf as well. I should disclose that I also listen regularly to Pete’s podcast, “The Bible for Normal People”.So then, who is this book for?* Are you a frustrated Christian who doesn’t understand why there is a difference between what you are reading and what you are being taught? This book is probably for you.* Are you barely hanging on to your faith and worn out due to the inability to defend the Bible in its strict evangelical or fundamentalist context? Or, have you seen the Bible weaponized as a tool to fight a cultural or political battle? Perhaps this book is for you.* Have you given up on your faith because the Bible as you were taught, no longer makes sense or it seems contradictory or it doesn’t feel relevant to your life? This book is definitely for you!I am a bit of all three. I’ve deconstructed views and doctrines, reconstructed them, and started over again. That’s not a bad thing.Why am I a fan of Pete and why am I giving this book five stars and a hearty endorsement?I think the main thing is that Pete is both a PHD scholar and a guy who is trying to live a Christian life just like me. He is not only an academic, but he has developed concepts in this book that just plain make a lot of sense. The book is not dry and academic. It’s full of humility, grace, and humour. Lots of humour! Here’s an excerpt from page 18:“I live daily with the very difficult tensions of being an unavoidably modern-day human while embracing an ancient faith, rooted in an ancient, ambiguous, and diverse book—which is to say I have to continue to walk this path of wisdom. I’m not at the beach planted in an Adirondack chair cradling a Corona waiting for the rest of you to show up.”The book is also chock full of Pete’s personal anecdotes. Seriously, you will be laughing out loud in Starbucks and people WILL look at you weird. Don’t skip the footnotes. There’s gold there. You will have a fun time reading, and it will go fast. I went quite slow stopping to read so much to my wife that she banished me from the house just to finish before release day.Now for the more serious bit. The GOAL of the book is to demonstrate Pete’s method for really reading, understanding, and applying the Bible. Pete being an academic, I am always surprised how he presents his knowledge in such a conversational manner. Humour (yes again) and a dose of repetition. Spoonful of sugar and all that… The repetition serves the purpose of getting the ideas into you head. It didn’t bug me, I don’t think it will bother you.In my time as a Christian, I’ve been asked the two following—now cliched—questions about the Bible:* Do you read it figuratively or just literally?* Do you read it literally or just figuratively?The answers are No and No.Pete identifies three key concepts that address those two questions and others but avoiding the liberal/fundamental traps. There is a better way:**The books of the Bible are Ancient, Ambiguous, and Diverse, and those books if understood properly lead to Wisdom.**Brian Zahnd recently said, “Jesus Seminar liberalism and Young Earth Creation fundamentalism are two sides of the same empiricist coin. An obsessively historical-critical approach to the Bible ends up having to either defend everything (Ken Ham literalism) or deny everything (Schleiermacher liberalism). A far healthier approach is the pre-Enlightenment patristic approach to biblical interpretation where the sacred text is never an end in itself, but a repository of wisdom guiding us toward the perfect revelation of God in Jesus Christ.” I think Brian got an advance copy of this book too!Pete develops this idea early and spends most of the book refining and applying the concept to topics and issues we all might have questions on. Read the Table of Contents to see what I mean. I reread chapter 11 -13 a few times. They stood out as something I needed just now.Pete really sets out to demonstrate that the Bible is not an instruction manual that you can go to for DIYing your life. It isn’t a Popular Mechanics library. The Bible has too many difficult passages and seemingly contradictory sections for that. He stresses the timeliness or occasionality of Biblical instruction. One instruction might be appropriate for one circumstance, but not for another. Wisdom is understanding when and how to apply those instructions. Here is another short excerpt regarding Proverbs 26:4-5 which contain contradictory statements if read in flat literalism:“It models something better: the permission to think it through, figure it out, and learn from experience for the next time. In fact, more than giving us permission, the contradiction sets up our expectation that we *will have* to think it through. And I bet some of you might have thought ‘Contradictions’ in the Bible were ‘Bad’. They’re not. They’re revealing.”Fundamentalists have a really hard time with this. To them it’s scary stuff—all passages must be true at all times and places. To me, the fundamentalist rigidity is scarier and doesn’t mesh with what I actually read in the Bible. That its ancient, ambiguous, and diverse really stands out to me, and I am glad Pete was able to articulate it in this way. The book has released me from some old indoctrinated ideas. I don’t think though that Pete’s concept of wisdom frees you to the point of extreme libertarianism; it’s just a refreshed foundation—old come new. I’ll repeat myself here, it makes A LOT more sense.So that’s about it. Serious bits. Seriously funny bits. Wisdom about the Bible. The Bible’s wisdom pointed at difficult topics and issues. Wisdom not answers. Read this book. Read it again in a group setting open to discussion like I hope to. Peace be with you!ps. I fully expect to come back and add to this review after that second read. I am sure I missed important points or didn’t really get what was happening here and there. My issue not Pete’s.

The first time I bought Pete's book "The Sin of Certainty," I was so frightened by it, I threw it away! Not kidding. I had to go buy it again after my heart stopped skipping beats, so ka-ching, Pete, you sold that one twice! I have now read all of Pete's books, and this is another gem. Pete's very funny and easily accessible commentary on how the Bible leads us to wisdom and not a list of facts we must believe is a refreshing view of Scripture. My main takeaways from this journey: 1) we are to love the Lord with our minds--don't put your intelligence on hold to conform to some doctrine, 2) questions are nothing to be afraid of and are actually encouraged by God, and 3) Jesus is so much more amazing than I had been lead to believe! Buy this book if you have a sense of humor are open to having your views challenged!

With Pete's usual intelligent, cohesive, & easily understood writing, he has hit another ball out of the park with his new book. Having read most of Pete's writings, "How the Bible Actually Works" presents fresh ideas about how to read the Bible, a book he obviously loves & reveres. Coming from the view of reading the Bible as a book of wisdom, rather than a rule book, Pete digs deep into both the Old and New Testaments. Using numerous examples from the Bible (and personal anecdotes as explanation), he illuminates how God has been reimagined throughout history, based on culture, circumstances, and especially the teachings of Jesus.This book is definitely recommended for those who have had Bible verses thrown at them like stones, who have had proof texts shoved in their faces, or those, like me, who love digging deeper than the surface to discover, with an open mind, what God is up to in the scriptures.

“My idea of God is not a divine idea. It has to be shattered time after time. He shatters it Himself. He is the great iconoclast. Could we not almost say that this shattering is one of the marks of His presence?” ~C.S. Lewis (A Grief Observed, p. 66).~~~~~Chronicling the story of Israel, Pete’s book has helped me better understand how crisis and grief and broken promises and loss not only inform my image of God but are also ways in which God shatters that image and gives me permission to “reimagine” who He is and what He is like.Again, and again and again...I read and understand the Bible best when I can see the story unfold in chronological order. So I’m a big fan of those who use mirror-reading to help shape the backdrop and cultural context to scripture.Pete does this in a broad sense and to a certain degree, but I didn’t realize it was happening until halfway through the book. His style of writing is so conversational. At first I’m thinking he’s just covering different topics and examples of how God's people were forced to reimagine God in ancient times. But these examples aren’t randomly placed. Pete is actually telling a story. And with each changing cultural backdrop (Iron Age, Assyrian empire, Babylonians, etc.), the ancient Israelites found themselves having to adapt their view of God.This approach to reading the Bible has allowed those ancient scriptures to decompress and breathe again. There’s “time and space” between those pages. What’s refreshing is to see how God was viewed at different times in different places.Great book. Highly recommended.

I just wish he would publish on a more regular basis. I do believe my favorite character is Oberon. If you don't know who Oberon is, you best get busy with your reading and start with the Iron Druid series!

I have been reading Kevin Hearne’s since 2012. His first series is called The Iron Druid Chronicles and this short story is part of that series. I have attempted to write reviews for this series but I love them so much that I am not sure how I would handle my audience rejection of them. I think I have evolved as a reader and blogger at this point in my life and I am ready to share.Let’s start with the main character, Atticus O’Sullivan, who is the last living druid. Atticus along with his apprentice Granuaile MacTiernan and his loyal Irish Wolfhound, Oberon, are visiting Granuaile’s hometown to check in on her mother who thinks she is dead. They come across some pretty shady things happening at the freaks tent and proceed to try and defeat some demons, imps, and ghouls and hopefully save some human life at the same time.I may be a little biased here because I love everything Kevin writes. This short was no exception. The characters come to life and his storytelling captivates his readers from the get-go. I am not including a review of the audio recording because I am a devoted Luke Daniel’s fan and in my view, no one can be the voice of Atticus or Oberon but Luke Daniels. Since this short was part of an anthology of various authors I assume this is why they went with a different voice actor. Thus, my review would not be a fair one. I do have to say that my students did like his reading though.

Kevin Hearne . . what can be said about this amazing author? For anyone who has fallen in love with The Iron Druid Chronicles, this side story is an absolute must. Hearne's character and plot development are exceptional (considering it took him years to be published) and his writing style will capture the reader's attention within the very first paragraph. If you have read all of the available Iron Druid books, I highly recommend this addition to your library.

There are no more books for me to read; I have completed everything out there at this time of review. But this story was fun because it was a jump into the past to read a bit about the main characters before Atticus had completed training his apprentice. A good story.

It's nice to have another story about Atticus and his adventures. This one arrived just in time for Halloween which adds to the experience. I may never go to a haunted house again after reading this adventure and it is certain, if I get the choice between heaven or Hell, I am not picking Hell~!!

I really wish this author would write some new books in this series. I really enjoyed e dry book in the series and am wanting More! Great author defiantly worth the time to read But do start with the first book to get to know the characters

Loaded a bunch of the Kevin Hearne "back stories" on my kindle. They were fun, quick reading, a laugh or two. Not as much fun or as creative as his Druid chronicles.

If you are an Iron Druid fan this is a good expansion of the characters and the Iron Druid universe. It almost makes me wish Kevin would do more short stories and fewer books.

I read this short story after reading all of Kevin Hearne's full-length Iron Druid/Atticus O'Sullivan novels, and enjoyed all of them immensely. Since I don't like normally go for demon stuff, I don't know if I would have liked this story as much if I wasn't already invested in the main characters. But I was, so I did.

This positions him for continued transformation by the Spirit of God in to greater Christ-likeness, which is shown through his stories and review of his experiences. I found this book very helpful as I could relate to many of the feelings and difficulties while trying to practice the spiritual disciplines. Nathan inspired me, encouraged me, and taught me through this book. As a pastor seeking to grow in Christ in the midst of normal life, I found this book very helpful. I highly recommend it, especially when read in conjunction with Richard Foster's Celebration of Discipline.

This book is an absolute Godsend for me at this point in my spiritual walk. It has taken me to a higher level of understanding of the spiritual diciplines, which was necessary in order to see my place in the world.....or at least what God's plan is for me in the world. With that comes an enormous amount of peace and well being. A must read from where I'm standing!

I read Foster's book CELEBRATION OF DISCIPLINE when I was in college and struggled to embrace it as a student. Nathan has communicated those same disciplines in a way that moves his father's book forward in a way that will greatly connect with this rising generation of young people. I finished this book on New Years Day 2016 and am looking forward to the year.

I LOVE IT!!!!!! Nathan has such a fantastic way of connecting with his reader by being transparent, hopeful and helpful. This book has some cool content from Nathan's dad & brief bios related to the various disciplines that are discussed, but the best part of the book is Nathan's insights, applications and honest experiments with each discipline that is discussed. Buy 5 of this book & discuss it in your next book club!! :)

Reading this twice, so I can make notes the second time. Great book, well written, I can see this being used in many ways as a personal devotional, small group study, and outreach.

Walking out the spiritual disciplines in real life is not easy, but Nathan Foster shares his ups and downs and makes the journey accessible to us all.
