Review

“Be ready to be startled and inspired as the story reaches its climax. Readers will race to the end.” ―The Strand Magazine“The pace is impeccable, becoming rapidly more frantic as Cheyenne realizes her chances for success are dwindling. In addition, the premise itself is powerfully realistic and compelling, with one small incident (Griffin's jumping into a car that had the keys in the ignition) snowballing into a nightmare series of events that will change everyone.” ―BCCB“Henry (Torched) spins a captivating tale that shifts between Cheyenne's and Griffin's thoughts. Both are well-built, complex characters, trapped in their own ways by life's circumstances, which--paired with a relentlessly fast pace--ensures a tense read.” ―Publishers Weekly“Readers will be hard-pressed to put this one down before its heart-pounding conclusion.” ―School Library Journal“Spine-tingling…Reminiscent of Gail Giles' thrillers and tension-filled to the last sentence, Girl, Stolen will resonate with readers long after the cover is closed. With a thoughtful and eye-opening look at disabilities, it highlights Cheyenne and Griffin's resourcefulness and resiliency as they save themselves--and possibly each other.” ―BookPage“Thoroughly exciting.” ―Booklist“Grabs your attention with the first page you read...Each page holds new questions that are answered in the most unexpected ways.” ―VOYA, 5Q review“Constantly interesting and suspenseful.” ―Kirkus Reviews“Quick-paced tension makes this a great choice for young adults seeking a riveting mystery.” ―Eugene Register Guard“A page-turner” ―The Oregonian“I finished Girl, Stolen in a day...It is a very suspenseful book, obviously. What held my interest beyond that was the way the author wrote the victim's character--Cheyenne's blindness was tragic but rather than focus on that, the reader is going to concentrate on her persistence and ability to adapt. The most controversial part of the story becomes Cheyenne's relationship with Griffin--an unwilling captor to begin with, he finds in Cheyenne everything he lacks in the people around him: someone who is smart and is sympathetic to his situation despite his responsibility for her kidnapping...The biggest mystery is left unanswered, pushing the reader to come to his/her own conclusions – I liked the challenge.” ―Rebecca Waesch, Joseph-Beth, Cincinnati, OH

This is a very good crimes fiction, action novel. There is little, if any, foul language. I cannot recall any. As a parent I would have no problem having a high school age child read this fine novel. I also enjoyed it myself.I had only come upon April Henry as an author having seen she co authored novels with Lis Wiehl. I was curious who April Henry is and what the nature of this collaboration is about. I have now read one novel by April Henry and one by Lis Wiehl and April Henry. I liked both but prefer this novel to "Face Of Betrayal". I intend to keep reading both authors with the intention of trying to differentiate the two. This novel is above average. There is a crime with a unique turn. The victim has to become very resourceful in an attempt to help the times, this book proved a true "page turner" for me. I was actually surprised how much I like it simply because I had never heard of April Henry.I purchased an audiobook and read the book on Kindle simultaneously listening. The narrator is Kate Rudd. I also felt she was really quite good and her performance added to the reading experience. In summary, I liked this book very much and intend to read another April Henry novel in the near future. In the event that a reader enjoys this particular work, one might consider "All The Light We Cannot See" by Anthony Doerr. Thank You...

This is a book I came across because I was looking for a suspensful book for a teen read summer program in a high school. It's an excellent story and a fast read. Many of our teachers picked a book for the students to choose from. This was easily the most popular book from all of the many choices the students were given. It is about a blind girl who was in the back of her family's car when it was hijacked by a young man who did not realize she was in the car. It turned out that she was a 'valuable commodity' because her father ended up being the owner of Nike. So the story was about her kidnapping and escape from the clutches of some very greedy people. It's appropriate for young adults and well worth the read.

GIRL, STOLEN was an incredibly fast read. I wasn't able to stop turning the pages, I simply had to know what happened in the next chapter. For such a simple premise, Henry sure knows how to pack a punch. I also loved all the research she put into making Cheyenne a believable blind character. If you're looking for a fast-paced thriller, especially one with great disability rep, this is the book for you!

Did not like this book. Too many unbelievable elements and a bit boring. I couldn’t believe that a few ladies in my book club fell for this unbelievable story of a blind sick girl with pneumonia could survive being kidnapped!

The story starts right in the midst of Cheyenne being stolen while she lies under a blanket in the backseat. I often read advice about starting a story in the middle of the action. While that may grab my attention, it won’t hold for long if I don’t care about the characters. There needs to be a build up or a strong display of emotion.Even though April began Cheyenne’s story when her car was jacked, she let readers get adjusted to the situation and acquainted to the sixteen-year-old by putting her in a vulnerable state (from the pneumonia). It took a moment for the sick teen to grasp what was happening. All the while, the dramatic irony and inductive reasoning gripped me. Knowing her abduction wasn't intentional adds an extra layer of conflict.I appreciate the way April unfolds the story. Also, I can tell she did extensive and hands-on research concerning blindness and kidnappings. In fact, April was inspired by a real kidnapping that’d happened in the same way as Cheyenne’s, except the girl — who is blind — was forced out the car about three blocks away from the abduction site."Girl, Stolen" is a short read with significant strengths and weaknesses. The tension and nervousness mounted as I got closer and closer to the end. A great thing, but I still wanted more intensity and depth of content. Don't get me wrong. I love how April took a realistic approach, but I wanted the story to burst at the seams with grit and wreak havoc on my mind and Cheyenne’s. Nevertheless, this book packs a punch worth experiencing. I give it a solid B+.If you're interested in a more thorough review, check out my blog post: https://izzyreadson.wordpress.com/2015/04/27/izzy-may-i-the-write-book-review/

I read this book back in 7th grade and it became my favorite book. I bought it, read it again and finished it in a week. It is such a white knuckle ride of a book and I highly recommend it to anyone who loves suspense. After finishing it the second time, I returned back here to Amazon and immediately purchased the sequel (which just came out earlier this year). I cannot wait to read it! 5/5 stars!!!
