Not worth a penny. Just as bad as his "books" on Fortune Telling and Voodoo!A "Christian" whose true god is Mammon!The book is pretty much like drug induced rantings. Literally beyond reality.And his background is BS.Hint: At 17, ancestor "Peleg" would have been a soldier in the Colonialist forces (in 1777), not a fifer! (BTW, on the author's home webpage he identifies "Peleg" as 18 in 1777 at Sarasota). And to still be a fifer four years later in 1781 at Yorktown? At age 21? When drummers and fifers were 13-15 years old and the Revolutionary forces were desperate for fighting men (not musicians)!And there was no sole fifer for the Continental Army (as is inferred), but maintained by different units (some had them, some did not). And just happened to be present at the two critical battles of the war? With what unit (regiment)? How many American units fought at both Saratoga and Yorktown? (A guess of very few, if any, would be correct). The rest if his "esteemed ancestry" is equally suspect (i.e., BS).The problem with presenting BS like that is it destroys an authors credibility in everything else!Ignorance in the Age of Information is absolutely offensive. And in this Age of Information, ignorance of the facts is a PERSONAL choice - one of bias, discrimination, and prejudice.And in a battle of wits and logic, I refuse to debate an unarmed person!John 8:32

I've been a HUGE fan of Ross Penhall's art since I saw it featured in an art magazine a decade ago For years I've craved a Ross Penhall ... but I'm not eligible for original paintings that cost thousands of dollars, and he didn't have any posters/ giclees ... until now! Now I can, and soon will, frame several of his pieces. They'll be smaller pieces (size 8"x10" and smaller), but that's waaaaaay better than nothing, which is what I had before. (Well, other than the image I scanned from the magazine and have used on my home computer's "wallpaper.") I am SO GLAD he made a beautiful coffee table book. Something about the style and colors of his trees, grasses, shade/light, with the occasional road thrown in, really makes something in my brain buzz with happiness.After looking through the book, I also noticed that my favorite (and way more expensive) Motawi art tiles and originals (I got them for $99 hanging in a Thai restaurant) from JR Harris are quite similar. Complimentary but not matching.It's a delight to the rest of us when artists make affordable, quality reproductions of their work available to the masses. Thank you to everyone who helped this work come to print.

Beautiful book! Makes me miss Vancouver and California.

Well rounded book on all forms of communication.I purchased this book for my 15 yr old daughter on the Autism Spectrum. She doesn't like books that make her feel like 'a baby' when she's trying to read. The graphic novel feel was perfect. It was a challenge for her to read. However, she was able to extrapolate from the artwork what the writer was convey.This book incorporated outdated devices such as the payphone along with visual communication like ASL and auditory communication (music/drums).My only complaint you don't get a look at any content with the 'look inside' feature.

Dennett is obviously a very smart person. He knows a lot about his field, which includes studies of technology, consciousness and free will. The problem with the book is the problem with most of Western philosophy: it gets into questions that are SO abstract that they lose almost all their relevance to the real world. Those of us who prefer more pragmatic lines of philosophy are left thinking "so what" in a lot of places. The title implied (at least for me) that this would be a 'tool box' type of book. Not quite. Lots of mental experiments about impossible scenarios, for instance.Why 3 stars and not 2 or 1, then? Like I said, Dennett is very smart, and the book got me thinking even after I abandoned it. If you like this type of abstract meandering, maybe you'll like this. Otherwise, I'd recommend sticking to past and current stoics and people like Sam Harris for discussions about consciousness and free will.

Dennett's recent offering is accessible and enjoyable to read. The title suggests that it covers the topic of thinking tools. However the book doesn't include very many general-purpose thinking tools. Those that he does offer are quite basic. I liked the idea of a "boom crutch" as a malfunctioning thinking tool, though. Most of the book is devoted to thinking tools that are useful to budding philosophers interested in free will, consciousness, zombies and Searle's Chinese room. Dennett spends a lot of time on his misguided critics. The David Chalmers and John Searle of the world. Alas, I can't take the opinions of these guys seriously. Dennett's side won these battles decades ago, AFAICS. There's quite a bit of material on consciousness. Finally, Dennett has a big section on free will. The controversy over free will mostly seems like a battle over what the term "free will" means. Terminology is important, but it's hard to get as excited as Dennett does over this debate. Dennett gives plenty of examples where more than just terminology is involved. However, I don't really see it - most of the real disagreement on this topic arises out of the issue of what the term "free will" means. I think that Dennett has been mostly overtaken in the "thinking tools" department by the new rationalists. For the most part, their tools are more interesting, advanced and general purpose than the ones Dennett offers here.

A really good book, and recommended for as much as you care to get out of it. Note that a good bit of content is recycled from Dennett's earlier work. The concept, thesis and delivery are excellent, though some sections feel thinner than others and it becomes easy for the mind to wander off in later sections. While good when a book challenges the mind to wander, these were more of the sort where a shallow pool triggers a thirst for deeper waters.

I am a lay-reader, probably wouldn't qualify to attend any of Dennett's classes. I first discovered Daniel Dennett in "The Mind's Eye"; a long time passing. I find Dennett a master in use of metaphor and his stories significantly restructure my "deep structure" meanings. I've read most of the first half of the book straight through. Now I'm fishing, letting chapter titles hook me into reading the chapter, or moving on (around 1 hr at a sitting). I'm looking for those chapters on how to "overwrite" the "patterns and cycles" installed in me without my "conscious or unconscious" awareness. I find it a great book for the curious at heart, and a good book for those of us who find ourselves awake in the middle of the night for reasons we cannot explain.

From time to time I find myself wanting to read Breaking the Spell or Darwin's Dangerous Idea over again and again.Now I am using this book instead for quick daily fixes of Dennett's wit and insights. I am at 2/3 of it and I am loving it. True, as many have posted, the "wow!" factor of DDI is not there in every single page, but it still is a remarkable collection of thought provoking case histories and experiments. Highly recommended for thinkers in all fields.

Therefore, I bought this book and was not disappointed. This book is in chronological order and gives great backgrounds on all the Royal members & staff involved in Queen Victoria's life (eg: her mother, her deceased father, her uncle, her maids and governess, etc...).The book also describes the meeting of Pr.Albert and how the courtship went along.Then the book describes all the children that The Queen and Pr. Albert had together, and what happened in their own lives.All this information is written with lovely photographs, so that the reader can see what the actual people (mentioned) really looked like.I love this book and it will remain in my own Library for years to come since it is such a wonderful REFERENCE book.

I wasn't looking for or expecting an encyclopedia style book. Plus, for a new book, the binding shouldn't be coming apart.
