GREAT practice book! Challenging passages and questions for my third graders. I'm giving it 4 stars because there are no part A, Part B questions...that I have seen...don't think there are any. I also couldn't get online. The directions were confusing...but if you just need a book for practice, this is the ONE!

I thought I was buying a text full of numerous reading exercises. Rather there are only a handful of passages repeated in many lessons with different questions posed about the same text in each lesson. So the actual number of passages included is a fraction of what one would expect. Also, given that the same passages appear multiple times there is little need for the student to read the same passage the Nth time around. This was a big disappointment.

There are mistakes in the book and the questions make the kids have to guess at the answer. One poem included a line about a giraffe with long legs. The question asked which animal did the poem say had a long neck. There were no comments about a neck in the poem. This book puts America to shame.

It is a great practice book. My daughter started this book 4 months before the SBAC tests and she got the perfect scores. This book covers everything she needed to know and prepare. I purchased the 4th grade practice book this year and hope she gets perfect scores again.

The stories are repeatedly but questions are not the same. My son is in third grade and they teach differently than whats on this book. I don't know what will come out in the State test coming but this isn't helpful for my son. Plan to return it but I took the answers keys off of the book already. This was not worth the money.

I absolutely LOVED this study so much myself that I decided to host a Womans retreat to reinstate its truths! Making time for Jesus is ALL that matters. What is the priority in my life? He doesn't look at our lists of accomplishments and checklists, He looks at our heart. Are you making room for Him daily? Slow down and find Rest in Him. The only one that can provide true Peace in the midst of a busy and crazy world. God never allows us to carry our burdens alone but walks with us, hand in hand!!! We ALL grew in a desire to put Him first. Its our choice, what/who are we going to allow to fill in the number one place in our lives? Definitely a keepsake on my shelf b/c its one that can be read and read again!

I cannot say enough about this seller. I purchased this to use for our spring ladies study and when we met the first session we had issues with showing the DVD. We could hear her speak but her mouth didn't match the words. Then the second session the DVD would play for 7 minutes and stop. I contacted the seller through amazon and I was immediately in touch and received a brand new DVD quickly. The item and the seller are 5 STAR in my book!

We have not done the Bible Study yet, but the book is one of my favorites. Note that the study/discussion notes in the book are different than in the study guide

This book is even more insane than the first in the series. As promised, it delivers fabulous science with wild doable experiements that you really shouldn't do. That being said, when I was teaching science I wouldn't have dared to have it in the classroom for fear of students getting terrible ideas - and trying them. On the other had - these experiments are so tempting. A guaranteed "I can't believe they did this!" page-turner, and every parent/science teachers nightmare.

Glad i bought it - experiments are interesting. The book is very durable. However, after borrowing from all the libraries around here every book I could find on the topic - they are all pretty much the same stuff. My little village library doesn't have anything like this, but ILL'd for me. I will be donating this one to them when I am done.

This book has the same exact experiments as his first book, and there are less of them. I felt ripped off when I received it. I'll never buy another one of his books.

As a chemist, I thought this would give me demos for my class, but it’s value feels very limited.

This took me a few chapters to get into, but when I did, I really did. Someone else wrote this tip, and it is absolutely true: sit down and spend a chunk of time at a go on this. Don't just read a few pages before falling asleep. The music of the writing takes a little while to settle into at first and then it becomes beautiful. These characters will stick with you.

This latest was probably my third reading. And I realized that To the Lighthouse may be my favorite novel of all time. It tops a handful of other novels and memoirs in my top ten. It is so deeply imagined, gorgeously written, and brilliantly structured. I like it personally better than Mrs. Dalloway, and it's right up there with Woolf's nonfiction masterpiece, A Room of One's Own.I actually read the party scene that culminates the novel's first section out loud to my wife, which took a solid hour and was incredibly emotional and moving. That long scene is a real jaw-dropper, a masterpiece within a masterpiece. Warning: if you try reading it out loud and sort of act out the parts and dialogue, your voice may crack.However, some people do bounce right off To the Lighthouse, as they do with any book. I urged it on my brother in law, and he bogged down and was lost immediately in the richly layered first section. If that happens to you, here is my advice: read it in reverse order. Start with the last section, the trip to the lighthouse, which is very straightforward. Then read the short middle section, Time Passes, which is only slightly less clear. Then tackle the first section, which portrays the Ramsay family and their friends socializing at the beach house and debating whether to sail to the lighthouse.The character of the painter Lilly Briscoe in the first section fascinates me, as does her reappearance in the final act.

Virginia Woolf facile use of the English language is breath-taking. She conveys the interior monologue of her characters, with its tangents and non-sequiturs, lucidly and it easy for the reader to follow without becoming disoriented or lost in the words. Read this just to savor her sentences! The ideas of someone from pre- and post-WW I was an interesting contrast as well.

Whoa! I consider myself a pretty stick-to-it reader. Tackled most of the classics and love the Russians! I read the other comments and did my best to keep going. I think I made it about half way. She was crazy, OK, no offense some of my friends have been crazy but... If the writing style was reversed, 1/3 stream of consciousness 2/3 coherent real time dialogue I think it would be quite amazing. The 2/3 dream like disconnected wandering mind 1/3 coherent writing just didn't work for me. I wish I was worthy.

"So much depends, she thought, upon distance; whether people are near to us or far from us". So writes Virginia Woolf of the forlorn, but independent Lily Briscoe in To the Lighthouse. There are so many adjectives one can use to describe how truly great this novel is. To sum the action up would be rather easy. It's about the Ramsay family vacationing at a Scottish beach house in the early nineteen hundreds. From the outside the action seems minimal, but Woolf constructs this novel from the inside. We glimpse the inner workings of the characters on this little island. We see their thoughts, weaknesses, loves, and losses. As Woolf writes so much of the novel deals with distance. Distance to time, to each other, and the perceptions we conjure in our minds. This book on the one hand is about perceptions and how we perceive each other in life. The whole novel is set as if it were in slow motion. Very few words are spoken, but the ones that are take on important meaning in the story. As I was reading I felt much the same way as Mr. Ramsay, James, and Cam thought as they journeyed to the lighthouse. I allowed Virginia Woolf's beautiful prose to wash over me. Her words moved much the same as a wave does; seemingly innocent at first, but packed with a punch that could knock you on your feet. There are so many beautiful characters in this story from the elegant and motherly Mrs. Ramsay to the conflicted and sexist Mr. Tansley. Perhaps my favorite part of the whole novel was the dinner scene. So many sorrowful and joyous things culminating at once. There were many times in this novel that I was almost moved to tears reading the descriptive sentences that Woolf weaves together. I will admit that this was no easy read. It may be only 200 pages, but each page lingers with the reader and begs to be slowed down; allowing the words to wash over them. A modernist classic To the Lighthouse implements Woolf's stream of consciousness technique that many may find difficult or confusing to read. My advice is to slow down. You may get confused trying to decipher who's mind you are in. but after a while it begins to flow. To the Lighthouse is true classic, and highly recommend it!

I'd never read any Virginia Woolf, and after listening to this audio version, I'm glad I didn't. Virginia Leishman's beautiful reading slowed the book down enough that the beauty of the language and the emotion came through in a way that I might now have appreciated if I'd read the book myself. One of my favorite audiobook experiences of all time. I've now bought additional copies of this for three or four friends. Highly, highly recommended. If you aren't a Virginia Woolf fan, it will make you into one. If you aren't an audio book fan, you will be after listening to this transcendent reading.

Beautifully written in the unique style that defines Virgina Woolf. If Woolf were a musician, I think she might enjoy either improvising as a jazz artist or extemporizing classical cadenzas. It takes an effort to stay connected to the story line as Woolf employs the narrative technique, stream of conciousness. Abudantly filled with "food for thought" in terms of both symbolism and the characters inner and outer thoughts/actions. The human condition is complex; Woolf pens masterfully.A book to read - and then read again.

Although this tiny book is not what I expected, I was thoroughly delighted with it. Ms. Brennan's paintings are amazing and made me think of Gerald Murphy's paintings - Mr. Murphy was the father of one of Ms. Brennan's best friends, Honoria - only from the perspective of the very small. Quite charming. Quite good.

The book was ordered uses but was in great shape and was a big hit... Just wished I would have purchased a larger book... this book was a small one and not easy to fully see detail... I did not see any details on the size of the book.

This collection of paintings by an artist most are not familiar with is wonderful for anyone regardless of art appreciation experience. These are the most whimsical little treasures you will ever see...most reproduced actual size...mere inches! This is one of my top 50 books out of my collection of thousands! CHECK IT OUT!!

I agree with the previous review. I bought this book years ago at an art gallery in Hawaii. The pictures of Brennan's paintings are clever and intriguing; they make you smile. Though they are only prints, I may mat and frame a few on them one day, if I can bear to tear them out of the book!

This little book is the next best thing to actually having her work. I just wish it had EVERY painting in it.

I'm not feeling at all well today. So, a day in bed reading a romance novel seemed to be an excellent idea. And it was! Finished this novel within a few hours and that includes breaks to change and fold laundry.This book was interesting enough to keep me focused but shallow in writing. Usually I can envision characters pretty early on in a story. This time I had no idea Gavin was blond until near the middle. Maybe I just wasn't paying attention. But if so, that points to the novels inability to keep my complete interest.The three girls are all stereotypes and that makes me sad. It's fortuitous they're all so beautiful though. Makes the next novels easier to write as love must surely find them soon!The story is what kept me. War spies and murder have always been my weakness. So though I longed for a better knowledge of the characters and a hint of real chemistry from the main couple, I read until the end for the mystery.

THE SEASON is a Young Adults novel by Sarah MacLean. For fans of her adult romances, that means that this novel is definitely more sexually restrained than her normal book. However, her great characters and intense detail to plotting, setting and dialog is definitely present.The heroine is Lady Alexandra Stafford who is seventeen and having her debut in society. Alex expects to find society boring with the prospect of finding a husband who will want her to be mindless troubling. She enjoys spending time with her two friends, Ella and Vivi. (As an aside, it seemed that the book was set up to be the first of a series telling the stories of all three friends, although the Season is the only book so far). All three are making their debuts and are intelligent and daring young women.The hero is Gavin Sewell, the Earl of Blackmoor. Gavin and Alex have known each other all their lives. Gavin, six years older than Alex, is good friends with her three brothers. I liked the character of Gavin because he was made more complicated by his grief over his father's death.Of course, Alex and Gavin are soon engaged in a budding romance. The book keeps it clean so there is little physical relationship involved beyond a few kisses. I knew that going into the story, so it didn't disappoint me.Gavin and Alex are also enmeshed in the mystery of who killed Gavin's father. The mystery is frankly not very compelling. The villain seemed obvious to me from the beginning, but the resolution of the story still kept my interest because the characters were so good. Although the end destination seemed obvious to me, there were some twists along the way that kept my interest as well.The only false note in the story is that the characters of Alex and her friends seem a bit too modern in their thinking and attitudes. There is a definite subversive nature to the younger people in the story...a sense that they are living lives hiding their reality from the older generation. The older characters seem more caricatures than the younger people (one reason I found the villain to be obvious).As a footnote, I really like the character of Freddy Stanhope. I hope that MacLean considers making him of hero of one of her adult romances.I did enjoy the book and would recommend it to a reader who understands the genre.

Each of her characters are handsomely drawn, from the spirited trio of girls that make up the centerpiece of the story, from the galloping hordes of Alex's brothers, to even the unnamed, but arched-browed ladies of the Ton.I have to admit a particular fondness for secondary player, Freddie Stanhope- who swears to be a rake and womanizer of the worst sort, but whom I suspect (and I hope I will discover in future installments of this series,) is probably just a sweetheart, deep down inside.Would I Give This Book to a Teen: The spirited young women in this novel play within the confines of the society in which they live, instead of shamelessly breaking them. Definitely a treat for young women who love Austen, historicals, and sweet romance.Would I Give This Book to an Adult: Definitely to Regency fans, and to anyone with a taste for something satisfyingly romantic. Because it deals with the first season, and so many novels of the era, and current novels about the era, deal with the same, I think this is a perfect book for adult readers to slip into the YA conception of the Regency world.My 15 Year Old Son Says: He thinks the brown haired girl on the cover is kind of cute. He refuses to specify which brown haired girl.
