My 4 year old son loves reading this book and it has become one of his favorites. When he first got it we were reading it several times a day for the first couple months. Now he still enjoys it but we read it about 4 times a week, about 6 months after purchase. Great book for little boys interested in the avengers.

Great price for this comic, This was a great stocking stuffer for an elementary school student. Using characters like the Hulk and Avengers helps kids be interested in reading while also having fun. The comic was in very good condition.

My grandson has really enjoyed this book. He is fascinated at his young age with the Avengers. This book is clearly written as well.

This installment featured Mary, who is my favorite of Rosato & Associates. She is thrown into a situation where she is representing one of the 'mean girls' from her high school days and she comes with her crew. We find out that the mean girl wants to get away from her long time boyfriend who is abusing her but can't just leave as he is tied to the mob and will find her. Turns out Mary dated him for a while in high school and tutored him. She is sure he is going to kill her if she doesn't get away but can't accept legal solutions because of the mob connection. The next thing Mary knows, she's gone missing after going off with the boyfriend. A call to her mother is the last thing anyone has heard. The neighborhood is angry with Mary because she didn't come up with a solution in time and the rest of the mean girls are making sure everyone knows it. Meanwhile, Mary is falling behind in her cases as she focuses on investigating this one, including one her father's got against the Frank Sinatra Fan Club because of disparaging remarks about Dean Martin. She also finds herself attracted by Anthony, whose mother swears he is gay. Turns out he's not, just let his mother believe that so she'd stop fixing him up. To top everything off, Mary is fired from her job. This is a terrific story if you are a fan of Mary and her family. I listened to it on CD and the reader is so talented - she does dialects and voices - you'd swear you were listening to a group of people. I love the family interaction and the neighborhood interaction with the Italianfamilies. Good story, good ending.

Mary finally had the nerve to imagine "DiNunzio and Rosato", instead of Rosato and Associates. Mary is too emotional and quick to take sides while Bennie is too pedantic. But together, they get things done. ( of course with help from Judy and Anne.) The writing is excellent and Ms Scottoline's sense of humor delightful. I have enjoyed all her books.

I'm hooked on Lisa Scottoline's writing style. She makes the characters so real that it's tough to not think about what happens in their lives long after you've finished the book. Another page turner that will keep you reading late into the night.

I've always enjoyed Lisa Scottoline's books, but I wouldn't say this is one of her better efforts. It's a quick read, but such cliched characters, and not such a terribly engrossing plot.

I am reading out of order but that was okay. In this book I saw how Mary met Anthony. Mary is not a pushover. I believe every school and job has a mean girl clique. Karma is is tough.

Another fabulous offering by Scottoline. A decade into reading these books, I still routinely gasp “NO!” when the who in “whodunnit” is revealed. This book was no different. With an ending twist that’ll have you hearing DUN-DUN-DUNNNN in your head, this has to be one of the best Rosato & Co books out there.

This book held my attention to the very end. Scottoline is one of my favorite writers. Her stories are always interesting and exciting.

We have been reading her books for years and have always found them to be great reads. This series has been particularly interesting in following the tails of the law firm.

I like the book. Some interesting recipes. My own experience with cayenne pepper is what led me to get this book. A few years ago I was cursed with MRSA while in the hospital. The antibiotics I was given destroyed my bowels and left me crapping my pants like a baby. I was eventually able to regain control over my bowels with probiotics, HPLC creatine, and much diligence, but not a cure. Everything western med. had to offer carried a boatload of side affects including various cancers etc. I was able to cure the MRSA with Turmeric, garlic, oregano, and oil of oregano, but my bowels would not go back to normal. If I didn't maintain a fairly strict regimen of 10 grams of creatine daily the watery diarrhea would return. When I started the cayenne pepper (90,000hu), 1 teaspoonful (5 grams) in a cup of water, I drank it down pretty fast before it could set my mouth on fire. A few minutes later I felt ill but didn't vomit. I laid down for a while & soon felt better. I haven't had diarrhea since. Now I use a level tsp. in a bowl of soup on alternate days with my MRSA soup.

The book lists all the great health properties of cayenne pepper and I must say, I was impressed to see the many health issues can be prevented or treated using cayenne. The first part of the book goes through all those health issues and praises the cayenne pepper about how great it is for reducing or treating those issues. All good so far, but I would've liked to see what exactly do I need to do, how do I have to take the cayenne pepper in order to treat a certain health problem.My questions were answered in the second part of the book, where the author included lots of recipes and treatments for each health issue. Nicely done.Great book overall, but some scientific proof of all the claims would have been a nice addition.

Oh my gosh! years ago I learned that cayenne pepper has many medicinal uses. I remember using it between my socks and boots in the winter to keep my feet warm. My aunt used it for just about everything but over the years I had forgotten just how versitile cayenne can be. We tend to forget that people were using these treatments succesfully long before big medicine came along.This book puts it all together in an easy to read format and Its so nice to have it at my finger tips. For sure I will start using more cayanne pepper now.

The book has piqued my curiousity and made me want to know more. It answers all our questions.

I didn't realize hot peppers had so many medicinal uses. I happen to love spicy food (Thai Chicken with Coconut milk is one of my favorite dishes). Knowing I can make effective remedies at home using something I already eat on a regular basis is awesome. As a bonus, Cayenne Pepper is good for weight control. It really isn't too bad of a read my only problem with it is ,it is very eurocentric. Everyone knows before the industrial revolution Asia and Africa we're the booming points of the globe not only in terms of people popluation but also in trading and wealth. But little mention of anything happening outside Europe. Even in the end of the forward Boorstin says "it can open our vision to vistas of human experience that we never thought of as "history" but which enrich our understanding of the whole human past and of ourselves." When I disagree. It's not the whole of human past. It's mostly Europe's past and I feel like that should be stated. Everyone has a bias it's ok to be somewhat bias but at least point it out.

This is an invaluable resource to put events in their cultural contexts. It is organized by early time periods and then by specific years, all in an easy to read chart format. This book allows one to see and understand the relevance of people, discoveries, politics, the arts, etc. to other components and aspects of the time. It is interesting to look through without a particular purpose, or it is helpful to look up a certain year, event or person since there is a cross reference in the back. I have two editions of Timetables of History, and recently bought this one for my college student grandson. I recommend it for anyone interested in history.

This is a wonderful reference book. The unique format lets you see at a glance what was going on in different areas of culture at any given point in time. The overview provides a perspective on historical and cultural events that would take countless hours to unearth on your own. Love this book!

I know, I know. Why get this book when you can just Google what happened in history. This book is a great reference to have handy. The format make it easy to go to a year and an area of interest to see what was happening. I'm a writer of speculative fiction and even though a lot of my work isn't time bound or takes place in completely imaginary worlds, I've found this book to be very helpful when referencing a time period or person.

This is a very Euro-Centric resource, but it helps me know where to go to find more detail. I use this with new Social Studies teachers to do inter-disciplinary studies -- wish it had more contributions from continents other than Europe

A book in a format that is helpful to both students and writers. Bernard Grun isn't introducing anything new, but his timetable is a quick reference for anyone wanting to outline a period of time and look at the important events of that era. It has spawned timetables of technology and electronics and other historical events. Wish it was upgraded more often, but often history is rewritten before it becomes historical.

After a lifetime of his review columns being saved and passed around by xeroxing from original trade magazine issues, this complete collection of weekly reports arrived in 2009, and sold out so fast its value has zoomed like a print by Picasso or Dali. The author was the first in any mass media to report the new club underground in New York as the musical and social phenomenon that it was. Endlessly re-readable, Aletti's rigorous fact-checking and fathoms-deep respect and enthusiasm for club music and club DJs make this not only a 500-page shopping list, but a true social history of the underground minority cult that emerged culturally and politically in the decades since the writing of these weekly commentaries. Keep an eye out for a copy you can afford, and you will have a complete history unlike any other.

Most of this awesome book consists of reprints, complete with photos and national and regional charts, of Vince Aletti's weekly Record World disco columns from November 1974 through December 1978. There are also over thirty pages of various disco articles Mr. Aletti wrote for other publications such as Rolling Stone and the Village Voice, plus an interview at the end of the book. A treasure trove of information about gazillions of disco records both massive and obscure.A recurring theme through the couple of hundred pages I've read so far is that 12" singles had higher sound quality ("hotter", "brighter" mixes) than the versions included on the corresponding albums. Here's an example: "[a promo 12" of] War's "Galaxy", actually shorter than the LP version at 7:28 but minus the change-of-pace movement that made [it] difficult to play in the clubs...smooths things out and adds a crackling drum break, making one of our favorite funk songs (those lyrics!) even more accessible." (From January 21, 1978.) There are countless other examples describing the differences between various versions (12", 7", LP, imports) that are indispensible for the collector.The reader can watch disco develop week by week, record by record. I agree with another reviewer that a companion volume of reviews into the '80's would be welcome. Although Mr. Aletti ended his column after December 16, 1978, Billboard magazine kept a column going. There were a lot of great records after 1978...yes, David Naughton, I'm talking about you...and I'd love to read about them too.Any dance music fan will be astounded by this book; I am!

No revisionist history here!! These are the original weekly columns from Record World from 1974 to 1978. There are regional charts galore throughout the book so you can see where the songs were hits and how long they were popular. Unlike a lot of the billboard charts, the actual songs are listed instead of Grace Jones "Portfolio" (all cuts). The book is printed on heavy grade ultra white paper with tons of photographs of actual records both domestic and imports. There are also a lot of pictures too.This is the ultimate reference book on Disco music, especially the early years from 1974-1976!!. There are weekly reviews of records and lots of disc jockey commentary. One (pre 12" single days) topic is the DJ's complaining about not receiving two copies of 45's that have a part 1 and part 2 on the other side. There are also pleas for universal formats of 12" singles so that the speed is listed and that they are always pressed at either 33 or 45. It is also amazing to read comments like, this week we have a new record by an unknown 16 year old named Stephanie Mills who has a powerful voice. You get to watch history unfold on a weekly basis when most people were not even taking notice.The only major flaw is that this book is lacking is an index. Hopefully, someone will post one on the Internet or maybe a future revised edition will add this. The column was taken over by Brian Chin in 1979. It would be great for him to continue this with a sequel so that we can see the so called demise of disco.An amazing 5 star book worth every penny. Thanks to all involved.

I was certainly a disco fan throughout the time period covered by this book, but because I was a young teenager I only knew the disco songs that had successfully crossed over to pop radio at the time. As the years have passed, of course, I have familiarized myself with many other disco tunes that escaped my notice back in the 1970s, but nearly every week's column as reprinted in this book brings to my attention records I've never heard (and frequently never even knew they existed). Just last night I learned that Lesley Gore apparently released a disco record in 1976; now I'm dying to hear that.What's really great about this book is that it's easy to pick up for just a few minutes and then put down, since nearly every "chapter" is simply a reprint of a column that appeared back in disco's heyday.This is a brilliant book for any fan of disco music.

Fifteen seconds after opening this book, with all due respect to Joel Whitburn, I knew I'd found my new disco bible. It would have been nice if the publishers had included every Disco File Top 20 chart instead of one every three or four weeks. And it's too bad that the author didn't hang around at Record World one more year to document disco's implosion in 1979 in the pages of his column, for you do feel like part of the story is missing when the book comes to an (abrupt) end. But those are minor quibbles, because what is included here - top tens from legendary DJ's like Savarese, Gibbons, Levan, Benitez and Bleckman; a chronicling of a cultural and musical movement that transcends the author's album reviews; and a treasure trove of rare photos and record scans - is priceless.

About the Author

John Ronald Reuel Tolkien was born on the 3rd January, 1892 at Bloemfontein in the Orange Free State, but at the age of four he and his brother were taken back to England by their mother. After his father's death the family moved to Sarehole, on the south-eastern edge of Birmingham. Tolkien spent a happy childhood in the countryside and his sensibility to the rural landscape can clearly be seen in his writing and his pictures.His mother died when he was only twelve and both he and his brother were made wards of the local priest and sent to King Edward's School, Birmingham, where Tolkien shone in his classical work. After completing a First in English Language and Literature at Oxford, Tolkien married Edith Bratt. He was also commissioned in the Lancashire Fusiliers and fought in the battle of the Somme. After the war, he obtained a post on the New English Dictionary and began to write the mythological and legendary cycle which he originally called The Book of Lost Tales but which eventually became known as The Silmarillion.In 1920 Tolkien was appointed Reader in English Language at the University of Leeds which was the beginning of a distinguished academic career culminating with his election as Rawlinson and Bosworth Professor of Anglo-Saxon at Oxford. Meanwhile Tolkien wrote for his children and told them the story of The Hobbit. It was his publisher, Stanley Unwin, who asked for a sequel to The Hobbit and gradually Tolkien wrote The Lord of the Rings, a huge story that took twelve years to complete and which was not published until Tolkien was approaching retirement. After retirement Tolkien and his wife lived near Oxford, but then moved to Bournemouth. Tolkien returned to Oxford after his wife's death in 1971. He died on 2 September 1973 leaving The Silmarillion to be edited for publication by his son, Christopher.

This is a great little book to have on your shelves, a must have for any Tolkien fan...or person who thinks Tom Bombadil deserves his own book (which he clearly does). Be warned though, the book is SMALL...and the font is intended for younger eyes.

I purchased a copy of this for my grand nephew, who is a fan of JRR Tolkien, as I am. This edition was so lovely, and as it had many additional poems that were not in my previous copy, I ordered a second one for myself. Arrived in very good time as well

This is a book. It is digital. 1's and 0's. You read it and that is that. If you understand what Mr. Tolkien is saying you are smarter than the average bear.

Take this book as songs or poems told around the Shire. There is no adventure of Tom, just a poem. Seems like a good book to read to kids.

The explanatory notes and additional material make this a must have item for all serious Tolkien readers.

A delightful collection of poetry written by JRR Tolkien including verses about the fascinating Tom.

Glad to see this in print again. It also provides a good deal of additional information and history on how the book came about.

This book is adorable.

Don’t judge this book by its title… it’s not what you’d expect. The chapter headings might come off as trite but without an ounce of exaggeration or hesitation I can say that this book is so much more than its table of contents. “Whatever, God” hits home. It strikes a lot of chords and it strikes them hard.The beauty of Fr. Anthony’s writing style is how he is able to give so much life and context to seemingly common, “heard that a million times”, Christian notions that would otherwise remain ignored. Because of that, the book reads more like a primer on the power of orthodox thought, soaked through with more humor than you thought a man of the cloth could muster, than a Sunday School class made into a paperback.From what he writes and the stories he tells, it’s abundantly clear that Fr. Anthony is not the type to have his head in the ground, ignorant of the reality of the world around him, nor is he the kind of pie-in-the-sky, un-relatable, ivory-tower academics/theologians who analyze the world from afar without ever really living in it. Fr. Anthony has been a priest for nearly two decades and all those years of rolling up sleeves, getting involved in the mess of the world and everyone in it, shows. His message lies perfectly at the nexus of theological truth and non-sugar-coated reality – it’s where dogma hits the dirt and believers start walking the walk.At its core, this book is written by an unflinching realist (it’s not a self-help book, or a feel-good Christian story). It’s full of real stories, real questions, and real struggles. Written in his trademark conversational style, readers will feel like Fr. Anthony is speaking to them personally. Some of his examples and illustrations are ones I will go back to. One of my favorite quotes explains the Biblical story of the feeding of the five thousand with five loaves and two fish: “God doesn’t want us to limit ourselves to only what we have in our hands, but He also doesn’t want us to neglect what we have in our hands. He wants us to OFFER what we have into His Hands.” I have also reviewed this book on my blog, beingincommunity dot com.

This is a must read for any Fr. Anthony fans, however, if you don't already know him/listen to him, this book might be a little hard to appreciate. Filled with personal anecdotes, 'Whatever, God', tells Fr. Anthony's spiritual journey from an ordinary run-of-the-mill, middle class, American college student, to the well known, passionate, God proclaiming Fr. Anthony Messeh we know today. On its surface, this book accomplishes the task of delivering Fr. Anthony's spiritual insights to the reader, but on another level, this book tells a relatable story of transformation. Speaking to a generation of privileged, suburban, middle class, millennials (or close to it) like himself, Fr. Anthony says: "you too can let God transform you." I recommend this book to anyone looking for a reason to let God into their eleven-hour work day, their german cars, their cubicle at the IT consulting firm, and their twenty one hundred dollar one-bedroom luxury apartment in Arlington, VA. Once in there, God can work miracles, however, the first step is to want Him inside, and Fr. Anthony's story shows what can happen if you do.

I love this book, there isn't enough good things to say about it. Honestly life changing if you're debating whether or not to buy it, do it. I was a little turned off by the price but I would pay much more know after listening/reading it. I got my whole family now listening to it and recommended it to friends we ordered it while we were speaking. I also suggested it as a graduation gift for high schoolers because this book is crucial at that age. Thank you Father Anthony for this book. If you don't know who Father Anthony is, this book is a great place to start. After finishing this book I started listening to his sermons on the way to school and work and he has me laughing out loud and nodding my head throughout the drive. He's said it before but his calling is truly bringing an "ancient religion to a modern world" and he does it amazingly, may God bless him. Highly recommend!!

This book changed my life - and I mean that literally - not just as a way to compliment the content and the author:) I had the opportunity to hear and meet Fr. Anthony Messeh at his church before reading the book, which was amazing because then I could really hear his voice in this book while reading. It’s truly so powerful, loving, moving, and makes God so relatable as a Father and not a distant God. I haven’t been the same since. Thankful for God’s Word, love and this amazing book! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!

Not your typical "Christian" book!If you want to understand God better, this book can help. As I read this book I laughed, I cried, and I laughed some more. In this book, Father Anthony sheds light on the depth and implications of God's love for us. He shatters through many misconceptions of God-- and he does so in very relatable ways.Oh-- and the author even GIVES away the ancient, secret formula for success (5+2=5000).I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and will be recommending this to all of my friends.
