Anyone who knows me knows I'm a huge fan of Beatriz Williams; I have read all of her books, and the most recent one is always my new favorite. The Summer Wives did not disappoint...it's my new favorite! I think what I enjoy most about the writing is the conversational tone. I almost feel like I'm there and a part of it. This book had everything I enjoy in a book...a little mystery, a little romance, great storytelling, and an ending that kept me on the edge of my seat! No spoilers here, but I had suspected something about Miranda and was so happy I was right!

This is a beautifully written story. I loved the richly drawn characters especially Miranda. She's a newcomer to the Island. It's here that she learns about love and life. The Islanders and the Summer people each follow their own set if rules. I was fascinated by the ridged structure of Society here. Winthrop Island is beautiful but it's secrets are ugly. The murder of Hugh Fisher is a case in point. Joseph Vargo was convicted of the crime but Miranda knew he couldn't kill anyone. I was enthralled by her. She's a fighter. She won't be stopped until she succeeds. Her story is entwined with that of her stepsister, Isobel. They are completely different personalities. Beatriz Williams wrote a wonderful story. I was drawn in and I couldn't put the book down. The ending was sweet and touching. It left me wanting more. The Summer Wives is a must read.

While this may not win an influential literary prize, this book by Beatriz Williams is incredibly entertaining and will likely keep you up reading well past your bedtime. Beautifully written and brilliantly plotted, this is one of those books that will stay with you long after you finish the last page.This is the story of two very different women—Bianca and Miranda—told over the summer months of three years: 1930, 1951 and 1969. This may sound overly complex, but it is an ingenious and creative way to tell this page-turning story that is not only narratively compelling, but also emotionally searing. The action takes place on Winthrop Island, an exclusive summer enclave for the very wealthy in the Long Island Sound area. There is a natural conflict—usually quite trifling, but sometimes quite dangerous—between the monied families and the year-round islanders who serve them. The book has it all: love, romance, seduction, secrets galore, murder and lots of suspense.Written like an intelligent and exciting soap opera, it will totally consume you. Yes, dinner will be late tonight!

I've made it to 68% somehow, but I haven't really enjoyed it for a few reasons but the main one being I find the jumping between time periods very confusing, esp when you have different generations of characters from the same locale and families doing similar behavior in the different time periods. I am not going to force myself to read anymore, period.

You can't believe the hype of reviews and you can't trust first impressions(sampling). This just wasn't my kind of book. It had a confusing mess of characters and jumped back and forth in time. I didn't get a feel of the class distinctions and I never grew to care about any of the characters. This book was mostly a formulated love story.

I don't believe reviews, for the most part. Often, the really highly rated ones are written by friends of the sellers! I got this book because I saw it on a recommended list somewhere. When I first picked it up, I was TOTALLY confused for the first few chapters because there were too many characters. I liked the writing style, so I started to take notes on the different dates & who was who. By the time I got about 1/3 of the way into the book, I couldn't put it down. I was guessing about the mysteries in it, and the writing style was really great (I'm a former English teacher). When I finished it, I was quite sad, because I was so entranced with the entire story!!!! Love this book, and passing it to my pals.

The story was okay although so transparent. It really made the plot drag especially where a main character learns something shocking to them when it was so apparent from the beginning that that was where the story was headed. The ending just drifted off

I love Beatriz Williams! I've read every book she's written and love them all!This was no different. I love the setting, the time period, the characters, the mystery, etc. I did get a little confused at times on who was who. I went back and re-read parts. In the end it all becomes clear. A list of characters would be helpful to me...I loved the intensity of the Coast Guard scene with Joseph.I look forward to more books from Ms. Willams!! I pre-order them the moment I hear about them!

This was an outstanding story. Nic, a Marine colonel, is deployed to Afghanistan for a special assignment. When she is gravely injured by an explosion, her wife Claire comes to be with her. Can their marriage survive this when Nic pushes her away? This was a great story. The author obviously did a great deal of research for this one. Could feel the grit and heat of the desert as well as the warmth of the love the two main characters shared. Another winner from Isabella! I haven't read Always Faithful yet, so I can attest that this one stands on its own.

While a sequel to Always Faithful, this book stands on its own merits. It starts off with Nic and Claire in love and making plans to marry. After an unexpected assignment to Afghanistan, Nic is fighting for her life. The book goes beyond struggling for physical survival and takes the reader into the emotional realm.It ends a bit melancholy as Nic has an appointment with a new doctor who will decide her fate. Will she be medically retired? However, she had been wondering whether to get out of the Marine Corps. While not the typical HEA ending, the sorrow is a realistic portrayal of a wounded service member and is counterbalanced by the love that Claire shows for Nic. I'm looking forward to another book with these characters.

In the second book featuring Nic and Claire you will be in for a great read although a difficult read. I thought that Isabella did a great job with this book and the second book in my opinion is more touching than the first. It shows the true commitment and love that Nic and Claire have for each other and how they use that to get through some difficult times. This is a wonderful book and I loved reading it!

What can I say? This is another brilliant and beautifully written story about some wonderful characters and their continuing life saga. Isabella is an incredibly talented writer of lesbian fiction. If anyone hasn't read her books, under either name, get them all now and give yourself a treat.

Love the stories of Nic and Claire. This one was more intense than the first. Nic is such a strong character. However I think Claire turned out to be the strongest of the two in this novel. Waiting in patiently for the next book

Awesome continuation of Nic and Claire's story. When war happens, love over comes injuries. This is a great book. I really love the relationship and devotion Nic and Claire have for each other. Can't wait for part 3. Awesome job Isabella. Looking for more of your work.

Isabella continues to give her readers everything they could hope for- Two beautiful women (inside and out), greate chemistry, outstanding research and a fantastic story. Nic and Claire have been through so much and to see their relationship grow and their love for each other tested has me rooting for their happily ever after. I look forward to reading about Nic and Claire and their continuing journey soon. Isabella has proven that with her growth in her writing she will continue to be a force in the writing industry.

Fantastic book. A great followup for Always Faithful. I loved seeing how Nic and Claire continue to grow, and handle the challenges that life in the military throws at them. The author did her homework for this story and it shows.

A well-written and useful book. For those of us who’ve been hearing about OOO for a few years now, and couldn’t quite get what it was all about, this book should clear things up.On the positive side, it is great to see that there is some movement attempting to resume metaphysics, and get out of the dismal swamp of reductivism and extreme relativism. When we forget that “objects” really do have essences and structures that are more than just their enabling conditions, we forfeit any real hope of agency.However, I’m not convinced at all that OOO is really going to overcome the reductivist-relativist problem.For one thing, it is quite clearly just another form of Romanticism, recycling the same approach with new terminology and pretending to ground-breaking novelty. I mean, it’s not just the laments about the barren meaninglessness of reductive science, and not just the idea that all knowledge of reality is ultimately sublime aesthetics. Although this is enough to see this is nothing new, right? Of course, Harman seems blissfully unaware of the history of aesthetics, and so believes that his idea that the aesthetic experience of the unpresentability of the thing-in-itself is a radically new idea. It’s just the Romantic sublime. And we’ve known for decades (centuries?) that such aesthetic experiences are really just the mistaking of culturally-produced meanings for the object’s own deep essence. Such “sublime” effects are the misrecognition of ideology for deep ontology…and sure, they give us a “thrill” and all, but they don’t help us out of the trap of empiricism.What’s even more strikingly Romantic is the section on “Society and Politics,” which is mostly made up of a discussion of the American Civil War. The war is discussed as an “object,” in the OOO sense. But what we can talk about, in OOO, is generals and battles and the importance of the Emancipations Proclamation. What is ruled out is discussion of the effects of economic practices or of the struggles and practices of masses of oppressed people. I can see, I suppose, why OOO might function as a useful heuristic, calling attention to feature of a thing we might otherwise miss. But it also seems designed to discourage attention to things Harman would rather not think about—like oppression, poverty, human struggles, and most of all capitalism.The one thing that gets him irate is the suggestion that we humans might be able to work to make the world a better place. As he says in a YouTube video made just when he was finishing this book, he has no patience for “whining about capitalism”; after all, it is, he says, the same old complaint for hundreds of years now—with no imagination at all. Hmm, why would this be?He does rely on some clever sophistry…in fact, relies on it a bit too much. As when he says that any suggestion that human thought is a different kind of thing than a non-human object is tantamount to dividing ontology in half, and insisting that human thought makes up half of all existing reality. Well, no, it isn’t. One thing can be different from all others without therefore counting as half of all things.And many of his claims are just assertions of the form “OOO says that,” with no real convincing argument why we should believe what this personified entity tells us. Not all claims are mere assertions—he makes arguments for some of them. But why, for example, should we accept that an “object” can have only five or six “symbiotic” objects that constitute it? How do they arrive at that number? And why should we believe that humans can have no effect on politics, only objects like catastrophes or technology can (he insists on this, but doesn’t make a case for it).The goal seems to be to insist, like Romanticism (see, for instance, Schopenhauer) that we shouldn’t bother to act in the world, and all we can do is have profound sublime aesthetic experiences. Haven’t we heard the call to aestheticize politics enough in the last two centuries?I would suppose that any thinking person reading this book will be spared the time trying to engage with other OOO texts. So as an introduction, it seems to me exemplary.

Graham Harman's distinctly American voice emerges as a leading gadfly in philosophical conversations that wind their way through architectural, thing/broken-thing, mathematics, metaphysical theories of what does/does not exist. The list marches on–and Harman loves lists. This book lays down, in replete detail, with admirable clarity, Harman's theory of everything. The author argues cogently against scientific popularizers who explain all via, what Object Oriented Ontology brackets as, "under- (versus over-) mining" operations. This pits Harman against formidable foes in all philosophical camps. The nimble vigor the author exhibits is daunting, as he parries and advances on continental as well as analytical philosophical fronts. Although better known for his contribution to the speculative realism movement, this book stakes claims on turf that Harman alone defends, positioning himself, hand-to-hand combat style, amidst underminers (atomists, quantum-mechanical adherents) and over-miners (decontructivists, critical theorists, correlationists, et al.). This is an ambitious score-settling treatise–not crafted for the intellectually squeamish.

I had already read most of this philosopher’s work and was expecting a redux and review of his previous work. While this works as an intro, I was surprised to find new arguments and illustrations that rank as some of his best, clearest, and most fun to read. Would recommend to anyone interested in the state of serious philosophy today, whether they tend toward the continental or analytic side or are just beginning.

Harman provides to his lector a very good presentation of OOO’s movement. He starts by giving a very concise structural description of his realistic ontology, to then expand it towards its social and political implications, finalizing by exhibiting the wider reach of this movement among philosophers and artists.

The book is superb: great job! This guy has a good, readable philosophy.

This adorable book is a great way to learn to draw cartoon animals! The book has sections teaching real animal anatomy, which the author then uses to teach the reader how to create cartoon and caricature animals. This book is great for everyone from absolute beginners to intermediate artists, and I found the equine anatomy section to be particularly helpful. The author obviously understands horse anatomy well enough to explain how to draw horses in a clear and understandable way. She even has a section for tack, labeling each part of the saddle and bridle. All in all, a very fun and easy-to-understand book.

Got this my Freshman year of college and I still have so much paper left! Way cheaper than the little spiral bound notebooks. The pages are also well-perforated and are really easy to remove. The lines convert well to grand staffs.

This is an even better value than using your own printer ink to print free paper online. The value makes it the obvious choice over any other manuscript notebooks. It's the best for personal scribbling and the quality of the paper, when carefully torn out, is suitable for turning in assignments and finished compositions.I have used it for years without complaining about anything. The pages are incredibly sturdy. They will not tear out when the book is handled roughly, but when you do tear them out across the perforated lines, they come out very neatly. I three-hole punch them into smaller binders when I do the writing then rearrange the pages - I think that's what you'd want to do with any staff paper, no matter what binding you purchase it in. I use a mechanical pencil and make very tiny, sloppy marks when writing but I don't have any problem reading it amidst those thick staff lines. It's most important to just have plenty of paper with as many staves packed onto one page as possible so you can just keep scribbling without worrying about using up space.If you're anything like me, if you buy this your staff paper needs will be met for two or three years!

Like other reviewers, I love how cheap this paper is. The 12-staffs can be a bit tough to write around, not much can extend above or below the staff without having to skip a line, but in other ways this can be helpful (4-choruses of 12-bar blues, 4-bars to a line, all on one page? No problem!). Also, I like to use a calligraphy fountain pen to do really nice manuscript, and the ink bleeds noticeably with this paper. Finally, when you tear it out, it isn't quite 8 1/2x11, which might be awkward in some circumstances.

When i received this book, i did not realize how big it was nor that all the major and minor scales, along with other music information, was printed on the first page for references. This book is perfect for any music student because it will last a long time, also you are able to rip out papers neatly to either turn in as a assignment or make your own music.
