As other people have mentioned, this is a very thin book. I was done with it in less than a half hour. I did the "look-inside" the book here on Amazon and some of the chapters titles looked interesting. I'm working on research for a book on understanding personality and how it can be used in business. The reason I bought the book was that I thought the author was going to go into more detail on how personality drives behavior. The personality chapters were divided into quick summaries of the Myers Briggs personality system and didn't yield any new information that you couldn't get from a quick internet search. That is a shame because if you understand personality, you really can read people.I feel mislead by the image on the cover. It made it appear that there was going to be some genetic information that you could use to place people into the different personality temperaments. Unfortunately, that is NOT in this book either. Again, there is abundant scientific information that shows that facial structure (such as width-to-height ratio) is related to personality temperament. So I was disappointed to discover that this book doesn't have that information either.Where I disagree with the author (and every other psychologist too), is where behavior comes from. The generally accepted theory (which is also in this book) is that behavior is learned from your parents. I don't buy that theory because there are too many normal people that had horrible parents. Surely they'd be horrible people too. The other theory in this book that I disagree with is that a lot of behavior is to cover for a weakness in their life. The classic example of this is the guy that buys an expensive and flashy sporty car, because he has a small -- ahem -- "manhood." But that is not why I gave this a low rating. I did that because the book was thin, and didn't have anything new that I didn't already know.I would have given this book a one-star rating. But it does have some basic information on reading body language, so I bumped my rating up one star. It could be useful if you are into that sort of thing. I personally don't get into body language because it is an "after-the-fact" observation method. In other words, it tells you what is going on right now, not what might happen in the future. I want to be able to predict the likely future of a person -- days ahead of time -- not just what they might do in the next few minutes. Understanding personality gives you the future of a person, which is why I research it.My overall impression is that this book was written as a marketing tool in order to get you into some sort of mailing list. When you get to the end of the book, it gives you a link to another free book by the author. But of course, you have to surrender your email address to get it. Is it just me, or do you also feel slimed when you realize you have to pay money to be marketed to?

The book doesn't offer anything new that people with common sense already have. The author seem to just pull the information from Google and put them together in his book.

This was the most judge mental and option based pile of crap book I’ve ever read. It has many spelling and grammar errors and I’m pretty sure an 8th grader wrote it.The author is clearly out of touch with reality. The first 80% is face profiling, like how to judge someone based on the shape of their head/face. ABSOLUTELY PREPOSTEROUS! High cheek bones don’t mean you’re easily angered...it means your genetics led you to have high cheek bones.DO NOT waste your time or MONEY on this book!

This book was a waste of money. There was nothing in it that anyone with common sense didn't already know. The author mustve written it in a day. Its an extremely thin book that basically says, "understanding people is important."

There is literally nothing of value in this book (which is ~20 pages). Essentially it's a blog post, but with worse spelling. It's a completely unserious pamphlet, not a book, a scam. I regret this purchase and so will you.

Some deep psychology:"Nodding of the head- This is a clear indication of agreement. In a table, if you are looking for the number of your supporters, you would just need to count the number of heads nooding to your idea"Page 30.Please save you money, you don't need this book.

Much more basic than I expected. Either I know more than I thought or there wasn't any real meat in the book.

Very obvious, you don’t need a weather man to know the way the wind blows.

This book is a must for any and all Grey Gardens fans. I would have given it 5 stars, but something really bugged me upon reading the Forward/Introduction by Albert Maysels. For the most part, I enjoyed his write up, which was heartfelt and filled with keen pshycological insight. However, one thing is factually incorrect: He states Big Edie "married a Bouvier." In truth, she was born into the family as the daughter of a Bouvier. It made it sound like she married into the Bouviers, when in fact she married into the Beale family. I am not sure how someone like Maysles (or his daughters, for that matter) with such an integral knowledge of these ladies would have made such an error, or how in proofing this mistake wasn't caught. Perhaps if there is ever a future edition, they can correct it. That said, the book is a wonderful compilation of information, notes and photos and well worth purchasing.

This book is a total joy. It has over 200 pages of images we've never seen and it totally captures the feeling of both Grey Gardens documentaries. There is SO MUCH STUFF included in this! There are all kinds of quotes we have never heard before, lots and lots of great conversation transcripts and a transcript of the film! A true gem, is the accompanying CD (with high quality sound!) of audio, all previously unheard! The things on this CD are absolutely priceless! At one point Mrs. Beale is singing a song dramatically and in between every pause, you can hear Little Edie calling out "Whiskers!? Whiskers?" We are also treated to the Beale's live (audio) reaction to watching the film for the first time! They apparently adored it 'like mad'! Little Edie laughs nervously at first. In the book, you will see a notation where Edie declares the film will win "Nine awards. You saw 'Gigi'? It gone nine."The layout of this book is in a scrap book fashion with lots of original artwork from the daughters of the Maysles. One gets the feeling from this book, that it was created out of true appreciation for the Beale ladies with no self-centered agenda. This was clearly put together with the fans in mind and they definitely deliver. The Maysles daughters had access to treasures no one else could.I would highly recommend this for every single Grey Gardens fan out there. It will be a great addition to your collection.

I ordered this book after an art teacher recommended it. I found it was easier to find a movie than the actual book, but I was happy to finally track this book down. It was one of the forerunners of the the Broadway show Grey Gardens. It is an amazing story and I am sure many of my friends will be interested in this amazing tale. The book arrived in good condition, was well packaged an arrived in a timely manner.

WOULD NOT BUY AGAIN> IT IS SIMPLY OUTTAKES FROM THE FILMING!

I love Grey Gardens and everything having to do with it. The two Eddies are a hoot. Many probably won't like the format of this book as it reads like a scrapbook - but I still found it interesting...didn't really learn anything new but it was fun to just page through the scrapbook and to think about what it must have been like.

ANY grey gardens fan would love this

Must have for Eddie beall fans

Very nice book!

Solving Problems with Design Thinking: Ten Stories of What Works (Columbia Business School Publishing), by Jeanne Liedtka Andrew King

Review

In a clear and simple style, this book shows how design thinking has been applied successfully to address complex and different problems in a variety of organizations, both for- and not-for-profit. The ten case studies provide creative and innovative applications of design principles and supply sufficient detail of use to aid readers in their own planning processes. Solving Problems with Design Thinking provides depth of value to the graduate professional classroom while being simple and clear for immediate use by managers.--Toni Ungaretti, Johns Hopkins UniversityJeanne Liedtka is dedicated to bringing design concepts and theory down from the stratosphere into the hands of managers tackling everyday problems. She and her coauthors achieve just this in "Solving Problems with Design Thinking". Read it once for inspiration and encouragement. Then go back to its pages time and time again for models, tools, lessons, and stories that will transform design thinking into a powerful asset for you.--Roger Martin, Dean of the Rotman School of Management, University of TorontoThis book offers a solid, in-depth look at the power of design thinking to solve organizational problems. Better yet, through real-life examples, it demonstrates a far more important skill: how to uncover the more urgent problems lurking beneath the surface. The authors brilliantly reveal how the design mindset can permeate -- and then transform -- an organization.--Daniel Pink, author of "Drive and To Sell Is Human"

Decent set of design-thinking case studies. It suffered from a lack of metrics, meaning it would have been nice to get an idea of the impact these projects had other than, "We got people really excited and talking about X" or "Now our whole team is committed to this approach." Those are fine, but I think for design thinking to be taken more seriously by the business community, it has to at some point demonstrate its value quantitatively. I would have given five stars if the case studies included proper measurement.

Design thinking is one of the those things that define the future of management and business and therefore it is critical to understand and apply. This book starts out doing perhaps the best job of explaining Design Thinking in a clear and understandable way. That makes the first first 15 pages among the best I have read on the subject. The books idea to illustrate the application of design thinking in a varied set of situations is also excellent. Unfortunately this is where the book bogs down as the cases focus more of explaining what people people did in narrative form rather than showing how design thinking helped solve the problem. This leads to case chapters which make up the majority of the book that are illustrative and a bit heavy without being incisive. This makes Solving Problems with Design Thinking more of a secondary book to read rather than the place to start to understanding design thinking. I would recommend Change by Design: How Design Thinking Transforms Organizations and Inspires Innovationby Tim Brown as a good place to start. Also Service Design: From Insight to Implementation by Andy Polaine, Lavrans Løvlie and Ben Reason is another book that is a great place to start.

Design thinking is something I have been thinking about for a long time, and learning how to apply it, even in my limited capacity, is thrilling. Great book, worth a read whether you’re a C-level executive or a new hire.

I found the book helpful in providing B to B examples which seem to be missing in most DesignThink Training. As well, the examples that are not product related also provides insights on success stories concerning configuration and experience type opportunities.

Jeanne Liedka's book is a practical guide-book as to how to initiate innovation. Others provide the theory behind design thinking. Jeanne guides readers as to how the theory is put into action. If you appreciate Roger Martin's contributions to leadership, you will be greatly assisted by Jeanne's ability to show how it works.

Through very different examples the book covers the principles of design thinking for business solutions in a simple and engagong way.

A must read for any executives thinking about culture change from the introduction of design thinking.

First, this is a GREAT little book on Kindle or your Amazon cloud-- the publishers/ authors knew better than to use mice sized illustrations, formulas that get slaughtered, etc. on e-readers. The little "essence" curve diagram for design thinking, for example, (based on the more expensive and thorough previous text like books by these authors) is large, crisp, and nicely embedded in the Kindle page spread about asking the four DT "Whats" about what is, what if, what wows and what works. In the sense of Gail Fairhurst's powerful framing book (The Power of Framing: Creating the Language of Leadership) this little book contains illustrative stories about how the frame of "design thinking" (a combination of creativity, customer research, engineering and marketing all rolled up into a strawman "how designers think" model) make folks like Apple successful. This is where I start to differ a little with the publisher's promos. The book, in promo, comes off as a "big company" text-- how to get around the politics of managers not thinking they are creative and selling new and innovative ideas to "execs." Well, frankly, this book and frame work just as well if you're an infopreneur wearing the design, management, accounting and distribution hats on different days in a one person writing, software development, consulting, etc. company! This book is a kindof "lab" for the lectures of the author's other fine, larger texts on design thinking, as it cuts right to the chase of real world stories (also a DT technique!). Frankly, I've read all three books in the series and will opine that this one is fine to grok the whole idea. There are fads like one minute manager etc. that writers make up and become "trendy." DT could be seen in that frame, but so could the iphone, so... don't dismiss it because it DOES have elements of let's create a neologisim and hope people buy it. There are legitimate and helpful new angles/ frames whether you're a brilliant design creative framing into finance or vice versa. As an Engineer, I see fellow creatives - design engineers in my field who don't "believe" they have a creative bone in their body, yet they do what this book calls design thinking all day long. This book kicks in when you leave the most efficient design pattern in OOP and start considering the user interface. Of course the specific best of breed book in that field is Cooper (About Face 3: The Essentials of Interaction Design), but this is a close second at the 30,000 foot view scale, with variety that includes a wide array of products and ideas, and tangentially, even services. For the price on Kindle, and the new frames it opens up, highly recommended.

This is a very useful introduction to sustainability, but one that's a bit unusual. Ever since the term caught on as a concept in the late 1980s -- according to Google's Ngram tool, by 1990 it was 10 times more frequent in English than it had been in 1980; by 2008 it was a 70x multiple -- it's been said to rest on "three E's": environment, economy and equity. Typical introductions tend to emphasize one or another of that triad in some depth, especially the first. While the first chapter of this book does give a bird's-eye view of the three E's, the subsequent chapters head off in a different direction: politics and governance, especially though not exclusively from a US perspective. For example, Chapter 2 describes the proposed and enacted laws in several US states that *ban* the pursuit of sustainability-based objectives. (All of the bills and statutes seem to have roots with the Koch Brothers.) Other chapters discuss the relative roles of private enterprise and various levels of government in pursuing sustainability, and the special attention the concept has received from cities.Personally, I wish more space had been given to some of the equity aspects especially: e.g., efforts to make cities more sustainable often lead to gentrification of parts of the central city, but this isn't discussed. (See, e.g., the 2003 volume edited by J. Agyeman & al., Just Sustainabilities: Development in an Unequal World.) Also, even a brief overview like this could have been a little more serious about the economics aspects. The distinction between weak and strong sustainability is never mentioned, despite its importance for policy. And I was surprised to see Robert Solow, the founding father of weak sustainability, and Herman Daly, an early proponent of ecological economics, cited jointly for the notion "that there is a need to take the biophysical environment and ecosystem services into account when assessing and measuring economic growth" (@113). This belies the fact that Daly and Solow are quite far apart on how seriously they take this view, as Daly went to some pains to point out in his 1999 essay, "How long can the neoclasssical economists ignore the contributions of Georgescu-Roegen?" (reprinted in Ecological Economics and Sustainable Development: Selected Essays of Herman Daly). The book includes a glossary (minus any definition for the title concept per se), a good list of references and, as is becoming customary in academic press books, a mediocre index. The author's style is generally readable, but occasionally he falls back on lists and catalogues, such as a long list of urban sustainability measures stuffed into a sentence more than a page long (@177-178). But these flaws are relatively minor. Even if you've read other books on sustainability, this one provides a complementary and useful perspective.

Good book as astarting document on sustainability.

Very good book. Clearly written.

Humans in the era of ever-expanding technology seem capable of just about anything. Of course no truly objective arbiter yet exists to tell us otherwise, so we simply continue to congratulate ourselves as being "the most intelligent creatures on Earth." No one has argued with us, but who would? Guinea Pigs? Bacteria? Despite this, some people have recently added "self-destruction" to that growing list of human capabilities. The first major epiphany of this new ability occurred following the invention and use of nuclear weapons. We demonstrated to ourselves that we not only could and would create such violently destructive things, but that we would also use them against each other. Prior to this, we may have doubted our ability to inflict potentially species-ending damage on ourselves, but we can doubt that no longer. Only the fact that "it hasn't happened yet" seems to prolong optimism. As the twentieth century continued following World War II, other observations and data began to seep into the consciousness of a few, namely, that the slow destruction of the human habitat may already have progressed to a critical and dangerous level. Early on, some of these ideas derived from the work of Thomas Malthus, who presented, at least on the surface, a very reasonable argument about the limited carrying capacity of the Earth. Though the argument does appear highly cogent, many believe in it the same way that people believe in "intelligent" life existing elsewhere in the universe. Basically, so the feeling goes, "it just has to be true!" No direct evidence exists for either Malthus' collapse or for extra-terrestrial intelligence, but both seem to carry a certain intuitive and creeping inevitability. Once again, critics can counter that "it hasn't happened yet." Others can point out that a system stretched beyond capacity will break and we don't want to wait for it to actually happen to find out. Which begs the question "just what is the Earth's capacity?" and the discursive cycle perpetuates itself. Anyone can obviously argue convincingly against something that hasn't happened and suspend evasive action accordingly due to lack of evidence. But how does anyone know the signs that humanity has gone too far? How can we detect an impending ecological collapse? In other words, how do we know that we're in the process of potentially destroying ourselves? The small book "Sustainability" in the MIT Essential Knowledge Series dissects some of these questions and frames them in a more sober analytic context. For humanity to last in the long run, it argues, it must choose a sustainable path, arguably unlike the one we now follow. But what does "sustainability" even mean? And sustainability of what? The book unpacks the deceptively simple questions and exposes some of the true complexities underlying this topic. It also points out the relative unfamiliarity of these inquiries, as these puzzling quandaries have arisen only very recently in human history. One definition of "sustainability" the book favors comes from the 1987 World Commission on Environment and Development stating that it "meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs." Building on that, the book does not ignore the glaring issues of economic development and the people who argue and believe that ecological "fixes" could have devastating impacts on the economy and the material well-being of humanity. "Economy" even appears in the book's foundational triumvirate of sustainability, or "the 3 E's," namely, "Economy," "Equity" and "Environment." These elements overlap and intersect and true sustainability needs to account for all of them. In response to the question "what should be sustained?" six categories appear: biological resource use, agriculture, energy, society, economy and development. To contrast ideas of "carrying capacity," or the point beyond which collapse would occur, the book claims that neo-classical economics doesn't believe that depletion of natural resources would undermine economic growth all by itself. This also introduces the recent and often fierce social and political tensions behind the creation of a sustainable world. Since human behavior at large appears unsustainable, especially in the long term, how do we avoid "the tragedy of the commons?" Some point to technology, but the book argues that technology promotes rather than avoids environmental degradation, not to mention that an overconfidence in the panacea of technology may lead to a precarious complacency. Concerning GDP and economic growth, some find the concept flawed in that it focuses exclusively on economic benchmarks and does not include environmental impacts. As such, a highly polluted, and nearly unlivable, world could still manifest a healthy GDP. Growth in general remains a sticky problem as growth, at least in its current form, usually increases consumption and resource use. Along these lines, many countries, particularly developing ones, resent the idea that they should slow growth in the name of environmental concerns. After all, why should they hold back when numerous developed countries pollute with impunity while enjoying unparalleled prosperity? Difficult questions abound and, at least in the United States, economic concerns seem to have largely won out over ecological ones. The book expands on these high-level questions in subsequent sections, each dedicated to a specific domain of sustainability. One deals with controversy, especially over the United Nation's "Agenda 21." Though the details of this non-binding voluntary statement remain a little murky within the book, the reactions to it make it clear that some in the United States see it as a direct threat to freedom, economic growth and American power. Some have even deemed it socialistic or communistic and then applied these very political ideologies to sustainability itself. Add to that the debate over the IPCC (International Panel on Climate Change) and its claim that climate change arises from human activity. Some dismiss this as a hoax, but the book suggests that "climate deniers" actually disagree with the implied social and political changes rather than with the scientific claims. A number of states even proposed or passed anti-Agenda 21 legislation, allegedly brought forward by Libertarian or Tea Party advocates. Reaching any consensus or compromise on these polarizing issues anytime soon seems unlikely. Another section discusses consumption, the "link between economic development and environmental degradation," especially when supported by fossil fuels, a known limited resource. Does the answer lie in alternate energy sources or less consumption? Or both? The future of sustainable water and agriculture has begun to appear bleak, driven largely by rising populations. Sustainability also reaches into the private sector and corporations seem to embrace sustainability more than governments do for mostly economic reasons. "The Green Economy" has also helped drive demand for environmentally friendly goods. But do such companies mean what they say or do they "greenwash" products simply to increase demand? Such claims remain tricky to prove beyond suspicion. Regardless, many organizations that support sustainable business have emerged globally, but doubt lingers about whether the profit-hungry corporate sector can really create a sustainable economy. Governments, especially the United States and China, seem to have lost interest in legislating sustainability. Following the landmark laws from the 1970s, such as the Clean Water and Clear Air Acts, the ambition for similar legislation seems to have dragged to a halt. Still, the book claims that no research exists to evaluate the effectiveness of sustainability policies, particularly voluntary programs. The political will to mandate sustainability currently seems non-existent. In reaction, some cities have taken initiative on environmental issues, but some studies show that they don't often emphasize sustainability. Still, programs such as car sharing, bike sharing, accessible public transportation and green architecture show promise. But what about social justice or the "equality" aspect of the "three E's?" According to additional studies, equity considerations typically get left behind. An ecologically sound but unfair world doesn't seem like a good outcome.A final chapter titled "Sustainability and the Future" closes the book with a big desperate question mark. In so many words, it asks how humanity will break the current political and social stalemate over environmental concerns. Science tells us that our current path is not sustainable, but distrust of science and scientists has increased. Gone apparently are the days when acid rain resulted in sulfur regulation and ozone depletion led to CFC regulation. CO2 has not inspired similar reactions, despite much outcry, likely because of its wide reaching economic implications or possibly because of the "it hasn't happened yet" syndrome. But how do we know that it hasn't happened yet? Many correlate the increasing number of extreme weather events with climate change, but only some in the wider public seem convinced or concerned. Not only that, times have changed drastically since this book's publication in 2015 and US governmental policy has become exceedingly unfriendly to environmental issues. Though the book definitely stands on the side of environmental action it doesn't really propose solutions, it more paints a picture of a gridlocked snapshot in time. Right now, some people cry impending disaster while others cry laughable hoax. At the same time, a backlash against science seems in full force, which seems strange for a modern world founded on and so utterly dependent on science. What happened? The book doesn't offer any answers, but it does offer a decent picture of the world's current predicament. So are we destroying ourselves? The final passages of the book exude a frustrated resignation that many people probably feel today. In the end, all it can really do is quote a 1982 pop song: "Only Time will Tell." Indeed.

I've read a few of the books in this MIT Press series and they have all impressed me so far. Sustainability contains a brief overview of 'sustainability' which can be here outlined as 'approaches to environmental solvency' because the book covers a wide range of angles on the topic of sustainability: its scientific applications, its social realities, its political realities, etc. 'The environment' is a nebulous concept so we shouldn't be surprised to find that the same is true of 'sustainability.' If you can accept that a book on this topic will be a bit scattered, then you can appreciate it. -Ryan Mease

My book just arrived today and only have had a couple of hours to glance through the pages. The book itself is large, well made, tons of photos. The small basic painting section seems to most things you need to get started. The Watercolor section is the best section.and pretty much covers everything but only the subjects that the writer liked. I would have liked to see at least a page devoted to painting flowers in water color. Acrylic and Oil sections are pretty much the same. I guess I am more of a classic art person and not the more modern art. All the paintings in those 2 sections are all just brush strokes in different colors, no detail, rather than blending in of colors to make things look like you are looking at the real thing. I thought the showcase paintings were terrible but for the watercolor one. A lot of the basic and tips will come in handy as there are some new ones from when I painted years ago.

This book is a great introduction to painting for people who haven't done it before. Learned a lot even though I did take art in high school and college.

a wonderful addition to my collection of technique books as it provides lots of details, not just lovely paintings

I had checked out this book from the library and was so impressed with all the helpful articles and tips that I decided to purchase it. As usual it came from Amazon promptly and I have put it to use!!

excellent book for beginning artists.. covers all mediums. easy to understand

Nice resource manual.

My girlfriend loved it 10/10

I have always loved the Saddle Club, and have read every single book in that series. But after starting to read Pine Hollow I was disappointed. I liked the accident in The Long Ride, very suspenseful, but this was probably the best book. They are well written, but after reading the Saddle Club, a bit of a letdown! For example, Belle, Starlight and Prancer were rarely mentioned, ditto Max. And this seems to be more of a romance series then a horse series. I'm not completely against romance, but Bonnie Bryant is advertising this as a horse series so of course horse lovers are going to read it. I am 13, totally horse crazy, and I know that when I'm Pine Hollow age I will still be mad about and involved in horses! Bonnie Bryant is a wonderful writer, but the Pine Hollow series needs a little work, and that's my $0.2...

When I was in second grade, I started reading the Saddle Club series by Bonnie Bryant. There were a total of about 15 books about Stevie, Carol, and Lisa. I loved the books. I kept reading them and buying them as they came out. When I was a older and in 5th and 6th grade I was getting a little old for the series and was reading them more and more sparingly. Now Im in 8th grade and hardly ever read the Saddle Club. They were just to juvenile and never got older. But when Pine Hollow: The Long Ride came out, I was very excited and couldn't wait to read it. I finally got my hands on it and couldn't stop reading. It had much more of a plot than the other books and was definitely more up to my standards. It also contained other things besides horses to make the book more interesting. I loved every word of it. Thanks Mrs. Bryant and keep up the good work!

What happened to the saddle club? The rules were must love horses and must help each other! They broke both these rules many times in this book? In the saddle club, it seemed like Carole, Stevie and Lisa were my best friends, in this book it seemed like they were my worst ememys! Who wrote this book? not Bonnie Bryant! I just know that after 111 touching, exciting, funny horsey books she couldn't just throw it all away! What happened? It's like a nightmare! I've been reading the saddle club for years, and this is about totally different people. No one could go from a wonderful person to the most terrible person in the world in a few years? Lisa dating Alex? Veronica married? Stevie giving up practical jokes? Carole selling Starlight? I THINK NOT!! A trillion thumbs down!!

I thought this book was good. But i also have to admit, i picked it up for the first time and put it back on the shelf thinking it wouldn't have enough horses in it. I went back and got it, and loved it. To all those people out there who are complaining that there are not enough horses in it, Ms. Bryant can't please everyone. The characters are not perfect, but not awful. To all you readers, I hope you will give Pine Hollow a try. This book displays teen views and problems in real life, plus it talks about horses. Also for me, if i wanted more INFORMATION about horses, I would just get a real book on horses. I think it is great what Ms. Bryant is doing with her new series. The characters are growing up, so she should write them like they are. Your books are great Ms. Bryant, keep up the good work!

After reading the saddle club book I was getting worried because as I grew older the girls never seemed to. No matter now many times Carol had a birthday she never got older. Now I finally feel they have caught up. I started reading them when I was 10 and I'm now 17 so feel that this new series is making the saddle club more realistic. I am having problems though with should I continue getting the saddle club series whilst buying the pine hollow series.

To those of you who are wondering, "Where are the horses," think about it. I personally love the Saddle Club...it's a great book to relax to, to feel happy about. But really, Pine Hollow is a more mature series, one that taps into reality more than the Saddle Club. In real life, problems can't be solved by one thing: horses. In real life, things are hard, complicated, and unfair. Life is, at times, like a soap opera. It doesn't revolve around horses. If you want that kind of story, then the Saddle Club is still there...but if you want a more down-to-earth series with more realistic occurings, then Pine Hollow is for you. For someone who made a comparison of Pine Hollow and Sweet Valley High, where have you been? Car accidents happen. Witnessing 800,000,001 murders throughout your whole lifetime doesn't. All in all, Pine Hollow is a great series that will appeal to many people.

I used to love the saddle club because the stories were always spirit-lifting and TOTALLY about horses. If I couldn't be riding, I'd be reading one of the saddle club books. But eventually, I outgrew them.I was thrilled when I learned about the Pine Hallow series.A horse series for teens!I don't think I have ever been so dissappointed before I read that horrible book.Did B. Bryant team up w/ the writer of Sweet Valley High?!?!She doesn't even MENTION the saddle club. The Long Ride Home is the first & last book in that series that I purchased.SORRY!

I have not read "The Long Ride"--yet! But, I have read the excerpt (standing in the middle of Wal-Mart) out of the Saddle Club book "English Rider." I think it's going to be an excellent book. If you haven't read the excerpt yet, you should. Especially if, like me, you used to read the Saddle Club books, but stopped because they were getting too young for you. I think Pine Hollow promises to be a great new series about Lisa, Stevie, and Carole. Thanks, Bonnie Bryant! Happy Reading!!
